Brazil was considered the second country with the most victims of digital crimes, such as online scams, second only to Mexico, as indicated by a survey released by Fortinet. With the mission of raising awareness and educating users of financial solutions, 99Pay, the first digital wallet created by an urban mobility application in Brazil, in partnership with judoka Flávio Canto, launches a series of educational content focusing on “Digital Defense” .

“The 99Pay security team doesn’t rest, but neither do malicious people. Every day we see the emergence of new types of scams, which is why we believe in the importance of educating and raising awareness about digital security among our users. We use industry-leading technologies and continually improve our processes to bring increasing security to our users. Despite this, we need to remember that in Brazil, social engineering scams are the most common, making the user the weakest link in this chain”, explains Bruno Trigo, senior risk manager at 99Pay.
The classes will cover some of the most common social engineering scams – a technique used by cyber criminals to trick people into sharing sensitive data – and, of course, the main ways to defend yourself. Canto will educate users using metaphors from judo, the sport that won him a bronze medal at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004, and made the former Brazilian athlete famous. “I'm super happy to be part of an action that is valuable and necessary today. After the pandemic, the digitalization of financial products and services grew a lot, both among young people and older people. The 99Pay campaign is precisely to raise awareness among users and remind them that, unfortunately, there are people with bad intentions, so it is essential to show that digital scams exist and how we prepare to face them”, emphasizes Flávio Canto, sports presenter and commentator.
The video classes will be broadcast on 99Pay's social networks, such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, in addition to the judoka's official profiles. “We created a distance learning platform through Instagram and TikTok, using 99Pay's knowledge, user experience and, of course, an accessible language for the end public”, details Renato Simões, CCO (Chief Creative Officer) at The Juju, agency responsible for the project.
In addition to the videos, the campaign will feature the participation of influencers, sending email marketing to users, media and communication within the 99 app. “Our main objective is to empower the user so that they are able to identify and defend themselves of some of the most common scams in the online environment. This way, they are financially protected and feel safer to enjoy the benefits offered by digital wallets and online payment methods”, concludes Trigo.
99's digital wallet has one of the most efficient security systems on the market, with monitoring and encryption tools to protect its customers' movements in all wallet operations. Thanks to the use of industry-leading technologies such as facial recognition, all 99Pay accounts are kept safe and secure. The company has artificial intelligence (AI) technologies that detect anomalies in financial activities and quickly identify fraud. Furthermore, 99Pay offers 24-hour support and service on its official channels and through the 99Pay app itself, in the “Help” tab.
